Modular Sounds - Press Play 10 | Eddie Chacon

L.A. based American singer-songwriter Eddie Chacon has just released a tight 28 minutes of elegant woozy soulfulness on third solo album, ‘Lay Low’ which he is currently touring throughout Europe. Pitchfork’s review summed up: “More than his previous records, ‘Lay Low’ focuses on the clarity that arrives with age and time. You can hear the proof in Chacon’s songwriting, which has sharpened to an impressively minimalist degree.”

The R&B musician’s career in music began in earnest during his childhood where at age twelve he was in a garage band with Cliff Burton (Metallica) and Mike Bordin (Faith No More). He would go on to record the 1992 smash ‘Would I Lie to You’ with the late Charles Pettigrew as part of duo Charles & Eddie. They would also write and sing 'Wounded Bird' for Quentin Tarantino’s ‘True Romance.’ Chacon spent the years following chart success exploring song-writing for others, creative direction and photography before returning to recording as a solo artist in 2020 with album ‘Pleasure, Joy and Happiness’ produced by John Carroll Kirby - who’d previously collaborated with Frank Ocean and Solange.

Speaking about his playlist for our Modular Sounds series, Chacon spoke of his current mindset as inspiration. “I've been thinking a lot about the beautiful melancholy that being in love makes you feel,” he said. “I like how joyful times can make you feel strangely like you're so happy you're sad. I think it has to do with the relief and cozy feeling that you're finally home.”
