Spring 21 comes into sharp focus with a strong sense of resilience, responsibility and long-term functionality. It’s a distillation of the modular wardrobe, designed with a real sense of style autonomy – placing power in the hands of the wearer, engineering garments that jigsaw together harmoniously, regardless of shape, size or season.
The slower pace of 2020 allowed Studio Nicholson’s founder and creative director Nick Wakeman some time to consider the successes of the last decade. Pulling the focus back towards the roots of the brand, the future direction centres around positive change and the injection of new additions. Leather has been introduced to expand on the theory of age-old luxury, providing an entirely new texture and elevated patina.
Carefully sourced from a trusted tannery in Turkey, this buttery soft 100% Lamb Leather layer has been chosen as the fabrication for a handful of brand-new styles, each designed to work in tandem with continuity favourites. Precision cut and manufactured for movement; the silhouettes are lightyears from previously held perceptions of day-wear leather. Shaking off the precious reputation, these are hardworking, elegant investments which will age beautifully and act as a framework for years to come.
The capsule comprises the Avanti Trouser in 100% Lamb Leather, available in elegant Dark Navy or Butter. Slim cut with a zip fly and belt loops, they shadow the traditional 5-pocket model. The short-sleeved Porta Shirt has a regular point collar and full-front placket with rubberised buttons. With two chest pockets and a crisp, clean straight-cut hem, it’s a transitional trojan – wear it open or closed with a cotton T-shirt underneath, or double up for colder days with a basic knit next to the skin.
Amplified impact comes in the form of the Venini Dress – a sleeveless calf-length tunic style with generous patch pockets at the front, centre-front split and mid-chest V-neck. The Verde Skirt concludes the Lamb Leather molecules, with discreet seams designed to skim the hips and kick out subtle volume towards the mid-calf. With centre-front split and practical pockets, it debuts in Dark Navy or Butter. Lambs Leather liberation brings unrivalled, polished appeal without fuss and offers the wearer limitless textural possibilities.
This new balance signals a shift towards pieces that can be worn in more ways than one; an air of inventiveness, a new way of future-proofing the continuity classics favoured by the loyal Studio Nicholson community. Spring 2021 takes a risk and reflects our new attitude; it’s a clean-cut calculation that places fabrication, fit and fundamental quality at the core. It’s time to revisit the founding principles and put energy into purposeful, playful longevity. Attuned to the new world, it’s a time for everyone to invest in less – but better.
